The Vascular Health and Disease Interdisciplinary Working Group (IWG) was established in late 2006 to support members of the Department of Internal Medicine and other interested UCD faculty in generating, developing, and promoting fundable ideas related to cardiovascular health. The definition of vascular health is purposefully broad and includes conditions of the heart, arteries, and veins as well as precursors of risk factors for cardiovascular disease (e.g. smoking, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome). The group meets regularly to discuss research concepts, share results, and build collaborations leading to grant proposals.
The purpose of the UCD Internal Medicine Vascular Health and Disease Working Group is to facilitate interdisciplinary research on the causes, mechanisms, and outcomes of vascular disease. The overarching objective is to enable more rapid translation of basic science knowlledge into clinical breakthroughs (translational science), and to enhance the dissemination and implementation of best practices (implementation science).
